January 2012 ~ A.R.T. by Anita / Blog
"Milwaukee, the Pfister, and Chairs ~ oh my!"

So, here we are at the end of January.  I'm not really one for making resolutions, but one of my goals was to get the newsletter out earlier in the month: fail.  But.otherwise things are off to a good start.

It’s a bright sunny day in WI and I just dropped off a painted chair to the Bay View Community Center for their Wine Tasting Chair-ity Fundraiser. It’s a kid sized garden theme chair I named “Sunny and Chair” hehehe. Sold a big commissioned painting to a piano teacher in PA, and was THRILLED to sell several urban landscapes from each of my two current exhibits - Transfer Pizza and the ART*BAR “Urban Perspectives” show. (I’m still doing a happy dance). One of my fellow exhibitors at the Art Bar is the charming Hal Koenig (painter, architect) who is one of 6 fantastic artists in the running for the Pfister Artist in Residence program. Also nominated is the energetic art lady Pamela Anderson (abstract expressionist). Check the link - you can vote online now! The current sister at the Pfister is my good friend Shelby Keefe. I attended her Gallery Night 'Snow Ball' event and live painting performance. That girl knows how to make a party.  How can you lose with Paul Cebar as DJ and a room full of artists? So much talent in this city!

Speaking of Cream City ~ here's a great article by Mary Louise Schumacher about a round table forum at the Pabst (Mon, Jan 30 - $10) called "Remarkable Milwaukee". It will feature more than a dozen of Milwaukee's most forward thinking people - restaurateurs, artists, activists and civic leaders - sitting in a living room-like setting on stage conversing about the future of our built environment and its impact on our culture. They'll discuss dream projects, the building, restoration, rehabilitation and infrastructure projects they’d like to see implemented if there were no restrictions or financial constraints. What a neat concept. Dream big everyone.

Cheers to the new year, Anita
